Frequently Asked Questions

The count including spaces is the full length, including spaces, tabs, and other whitespace. The count excluding spaces measures only the text after removing those characters. Check which standard applies when calculating writing fees or platform character limits.

Depending on the encoding method, the number of bytes required to represent one character varies. In UTF-8, Korean is 3 bytes and English is 1 byte, and in EUC-KR, Korean is 2 bytes and English is 1 byte. When sending to a database or SMS, you must take into account byte limitations depending on the encoding.

In English, words separated by spaces are counted. Even in Korean, words are separated based on spaces. Punctuation marks or special characters are not included in words, and consecutive spaces are treated as one.

Reading time is estimated based on the average adult reading speed of approximately 200 words per minute (approximately 500 characters in Korean). Speaking time is calculated based on an average speech rate of approximately 130 words per minute. Actual times may vary from person to person.

Tips & Best Practices

  • When writing a blog post, you can use this tool to accurately match the meta description length (155 to 160 characters) optimized for SEO.
  • Check the character count for each SNS platform in real time, including Twitter/X's 280 character limit and KakaoTalk message limit.
  • When checking whether you meet the word count requirements for your college assignment or paper, be clear about your space inclusion/exclusion criteria.
  • When sending SMS in EUC-KR, content over 80 bytes (about 40 Korean characters) is converted to a long message.
  • When preparing presentation materials, you can use the speaking time estimation function to check in advance whether the length is appropriate.
  • When checking the character limit for your resume or self-introduction, be sure to check whether spaces are included.
